Often mixed up but a clearly differentiated treatment for cotton. For caustification the caustic concentration is lot lower than for mercerisation. But the main difference between the two processes is that mercerisation always means the fabric is kept by pins, clamps or special designs in a given width means under tension and washed off in the same given shape to keep it. Caustification is done without this control. Therefore with caustification you will achieve a deeper shade on the treated fabric but not the luster, touch and brilliancy like the one given by mercerization.
There are two ways of mercerisation hot and cold.
